The vitality of the school depends on the Board of Trustees' commitment, compassion, and imaginative leadership. Members of the Bachman Academy Board of Trustees are expected, in part, to:
The Bachman Academy Board of Trustees are:
- Be an ambassador for the academy
- Attend board of trustees meetings held five times per year
- Serve on a minimum on one board committee or task force
- Contribute financially to the school
- Directly supervise the head of school

George Con Knox, Jr.
Board Chair
Upon his discharge from the United States Air Force in 1971 where he served as a Captain, Con Knox joined Insurance Planning & Service Company (IPSCO) in Chattanooga, Tennessee and recognized that the key to growing the firm was in expanding the association division. In 1980, Knox became President and owner of IPSCO. Today, IPSCO tailors a wide range of choices and coverage for its clients, including group and individual medical insurance, liability coverage, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, workers' compensation, and disability. As a licensed third party administrator in Tennessee, IPSCO diligently services the products offered to its clients and delivers what the company calls "old-fashioned reliability with state-of-the-art service."
Knox graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
He has been a member of Bachman Academy’s Board of Trustees since 1999.

Donovan Hinds
Vice-Chair
Don Hinds is a Senior IT Consultant for Chevo Consulting, LLC, a Maryland consulting firm that provides strategic IT planning and project management to federal government agencies. He has more than 20 years of experience in planning, assessing and communicating the strategic value of IT projects. He also has extensive experience preparing business cases, cost/benefit and alternatives analyses, tracking budgets, and earned value metrics for several multi-million dollar software projects. Hinds has successfully supported major technology projects for such clients as the IRS, National Archives, US Navy, Census Bureau, Department of Agriculture, Microsoft, Disney Consumer Products and others.
Prior to his current position, Hinds worked as an independent consultant for the House of Representatives and the law firm of Covington and Burling. He is also the proud parent of a Bachman Academy graduate.
Hinds received his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Indiana University.
Hinds has been a member of Bachman Academy’s Board of Trustees since 2009.

Paul H. Tyner
Board Treasurer
President of Tyner Capital Management Investment Counsel, Inc., Paul Tyner manages portfolios, works directly with the clients, and heads the company research effort. He has more than 30 years of experience in investment and financial management and has managed individual portfolios over the course of those years.
Prior to establishing the firm, Tyner spent two years with Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company as Vice President of Portfolio Management and Equities. Other career highlights include Vice President of Trust at C&S Trust, and Director of Pension Fund Management at RIR Nabisco. Tyner is a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
Tyner received his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Wake Forest University, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Guilford College.
Tyner has been a member of Bachman Academy’s Board of Trustees since 2000.

Kenneth Weller
Board Secretary
Ken Weller, a Chattanooga native, is President, Founder and CEO of Weller Construction, LLC, a family owned and managed residential construction company. Weller Construction specializes in designing and building custom homes in Hamilton County and the surrounding areas. Weller enlisted in the Air Force right out of high school where he served for four years. After his discharge from the military he went to work for TVA as a unit operator. He also worked for North American Royalties – Wheeland Foundary where he developed and managed their information system and worked with robotics.
While at Chattanooga State University, Ken studied mechanical engineering, industrial electronics, plant automation and robotics.
Weller has a soft spot in his heart for all children and we are especially thankful for his dedication to special needs children here at Bachman. Weller has been a member of Bachman Academy’s Board of Trustees since 2010.

Fred W. Lupton, II
Fred Lupton began his career in 1959 when he stared working for Pioneer Services and Engineering in Chicago right out of college. He later moved to Chattanooga in 1964. Perhaps the longest standing volunteer and supporter of the academy, Lupton continues his dedication to Bachman Academy into his sixth decade. Lupton has continued to carry a soft spot for Bachman since attending one of Bachman’s annual community celebrations as a teenager.
As a retired engineer, Lupton continues to donate invaluable expertise while serving as Chairman of the Facilities Committee. He was the President and owner of Lupton Engineering, Inc., in Chattanooga, Tennessee which he established in 1969. Since his retirement in 1989, Lupton is well known for his philanthropy and volunteer efforts to many organizations in the local community.
Lupton graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1955 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then graduated from MIT again in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1959, he graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary.
Lupton has been a member of Bachman Academy’s Board of Trustees since 1994.

Brian Paras
Brian Paras is President and CEO of Northwestern Medical Consultants (NFC). NFC is diversified third-party commercial finance company. NFC provides traditional commercial and industrial financing products to established middle-market companies. NFC is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana where the company was founded in 1989. Brian is also the President of Northwestern Medical Consultants (NMC). NMC provides consulting services to the health care industry. Specifically, Northwestern Medical Consultants provides investment banking consulting services to the health care industry. Specifically, NMC provides practice acquisition services, consulting services for practice relocation and expansion projects and commercial financing services to physician groups and other health care providers.
Paras is the proud father of a Bachman Academy graduate.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Butler University in 1973.
Paras joined Bachman’s Board of Trustees in 2011.

Stephen E. Ratterman, Sr.
Stephen Ratterman founded CSL Management after serving four years as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Fifth Point Properties, a wholly owned subsidiary of his fraternity, Sigma Nu. He played a key role in developing the property management services offered to the fraternity’s chapters throughout the United States. Ratterman has over nine years of experience in property management, five of which have been exclusively focused on fraternity and sorority housing. He has extensive experience in risk management, insurance placement, and real estate acquisitions.
Throughout his professional career Ratterman has striven to give back to his community and serve others by volunteering and serving on boards for organizations such as Bachman Academy, Boys Scouts of America, YMCA, and Keep America Beautiful.
Ratterman holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Indiana University.
He has been a member of Bachman Academy’s Board of Trustees since 2006.
