Headmaster's Welcome

Hello and welcome to Bachman Academy, a beautiful 200-acre campus where children who learn differently are embraced by an experienced, enthusiastic staff with a strong tradition of success!

Can you imagine what it feels like to be…

  • An 11th grade boy from Canada with an above average IQ and a dream of taking over his deceased father’s business, however, you can’t recite a single multiplication fact…
  • A 9th grade girl from Texas who is holding on to her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian, however, you can’t name the letters of the alphabet…
  • A 6th grade boy from Chattanooga with extraordinary artistic talent and a goal of becoming a famous illustrator, if only you could read the story…
  • A teenager sitting in a public high school U.S. History class with 30 peers and you’re asked to read the next paragraph aloud… Now imagine you never learned to read.
These scenarios are representations of our diverse student body. Unless you personally know a child with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD or Nonverbal Learning Disorder, you can’t fully understand the pain they feel when they walk into a typical classroom and sit down next to peers who do not struggle with learning disabilities.

Bachman Academy is a different school. We provide a challenging core curriculum in a nurturing environment with a low student to teacher ratio (averaging 5:1). Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies are taught using simultaneous, multi-sensory techniques that provide maximum learning and retention for students that learn differently. Language Arts and Math are taught based on the individual level of each student. The proficiency level of each student is determined by nationally-normed, individually administered testing such as the Woodcock Johnston Academic Achievement, KeyMath and the Test of Written Language. These tests are administered annually to monitor for adequate annual progress. With small class sizes, the teachers are able to individualize instruction using the student’s strengths and interests, which helps to increase retention of material and in enhance progress. Our four academic focus areas - horticulture, woodworking, mechanics and equine - provide inherent therapeutic opportunities for the student to understand and grow with his or her challenges.

Empowering students with learning differences is our only mission.
To enable them to develop the skills and values necessary for success is a goal that we take very seriously.

I hope that you will take this opportunity to explore our website. Then contact us and set up a tour so that you can see in person what a different school can do for your different learner.
